Home of Brian Miller and Cindy Tanner since 1999, Winged Elm is a 70-acre working farm in South Roane County, Tennessee. We provide the following products to customers who want to know where what they eat comes from and how it's grown:
PORK. Our feeder pigs are raised on the farm or bought as weanlings nearby. They live in the woods or in large paddocks. All of our pigs do what pigs like to do best — that is, eat grains and produce, wallow, play, sleep, and snuffle for bugs, worms, acorns, and other edibles.
HONEY. Once the bees have stored enough honey to feed themselves through winter, we harvest and sell the surplus. The honey's flavor can change from season to season, year to year, depending on what is blooming when. Our honey is pure and natural — no preservatives, no heating, no artificial coloring.
LAMB. All lambs are born to our small flock of Katahdin and Dorper sheep. They are pasture-grown for just the right amount of fat and muscling. Like all our livestock, they are raised as naturally as possible, without antibiotics and other medications.
FRESH PRODUCE. Thanks to our new hoop house, we're now able to grow a variety of vegetables year-round — among them, tomatoes, greens, cabbage, and broccoli. We also offer muscadines and other seasonal fruits.
BEEF & CHICKEN. We occasionally offer beef and whole chicken. The cattle are bought as calves and grown exclusively on pasture. The chickens are typically purchased as day-olds and raised to 8-9 weeks of age before being processed on the farm.
